Hi, Please split your issues into three separate issues one per issuezilla nunber so that they will be properly tracked. 1. improper hyphenation of urls's - use this Issuezilla for this single issue - please be more specific, exactly how are the url's improperly hyphenated. - please provide a sample document that shows this (attach it to this issue) 2. O'Reilly hyphenation issue - create a new issue for this one so that it can be tracked 3. printing or pdf output hyphens too close - create a new issue for this one so it can be tracked - assign it to the gsl (or vcl ) project NOT lingucomponent - attach a sample document, and output including font to the issue so that it can actually be recreated. Thanks, Kevin Created attachment 11624 [details]
swx file with the wrong hyphenated urls
Urls are wrong hyphenated, since words within are handled as single words and hyphenated as such (see attachment for this). Url hyphenation should contain no hyphen. Thanks, Pablo Hi, Thanks for filing this as a separate issue. Since URL's can be very very long strings, not hyphenating them at all in a written document makes little sense. There must be rules someplace that describe the conditions under which the words in a URL may be hyphenated (as used by newspapers and others). Perhaps only the the "." which describe the domain name of the machine? Can you please provide a citation to a grammar reference work or style guide reference work that says hyphenation must not be done in written URLs? Thanks, Kevin Since the url hyphenation seems to be so complicated, I think the best solution would be to improve a dialog in OOo options, that allows the user to determine how urls are to be hyphenated in his/her documents. It should contain the following options: -whether to hyphen urls or not, -whether to use hyphen as separator, other character or none at all, -whether to hyphen words or not, -whether to hyphen before or after which characters (slash and points). I think that this is something essential that has to be improved, since many important documents (such as resumes) contain urls. |
