only the lock state of this directory seems to be defect. 
other directories are ok. example:

dev@eham02-d137-103: /tmp > cvs co whiteboard/bonobo
cvs server: Updating whiteboard/bonobo
cvs server: Updating whiteboard/bonobo/idl
cvs server: failed to create lock directory for `/cvs/whiteboard/bonobo/idl'

Permission denied
cvs server: failed to obtain dir lock in repository `/cvs/whiteboard/bonobo/idl'
cvs [server aborted]: read lock failed - giving up

As relates to the Whiteboard project, 
reassigned to goolie
for ownership 
(to coordinate technical support as required toward resolution)

Perhaps that lockfile was erased?  I was able to check out the whiteboard/bonobo module successfully...

Could you try it again, torsten?
