I think it is feature, not a defect. please explain more about your suggestion. regarding 688, I dont know, but maybe you better to change it to the nearest version, 1.1 is for 1.1 version which now is almost final To elaborate, when an essay, thesis or journal article is written references need to be cited. If the person chooses to use the the Harvard referencing model, which is the most common, they need to cite references within the text. eg: ....evidence suggest that diversity management is a powerful influence in global corporations (Taylor, 1995; Lynn et al, 1997; Westwood, 1999; Todd and Brand 2000). It is important to get an accurate word count that excludes words between brackets, as you are allowed to write a limted number of words in the thesis/essay and refrences like these are not included in the word count. btw, I figured there was no point in filing it under RC4 as 1.1 is going to be out very soon reassigned to bh cross-linking the issue... I think we should consider this as an important issue for the implementation of word-count feature. BH->DVO: Please give approval for this evaluated OO.o 2.0 flagged issue. If you confirm with the target OO.o 2.0, then please keep it on your owner (or the owner of the concerning developer) for implementation. In case you want this issue for 'OOo Later', then please reset the target milestone. If you decline the issue finally, please set the resolution to 'Wontfix' (but do not close). In case of 'OOo Later' or 'Wontfix' please reset it on Bettina's owner. Thank you. Because of a shortage of resources we have to retarget this issue to OOo later. What about using a special character style with word count disabled for the text in the brackets? Reset assignee on issues not touched by assignee in more than 2000 days. |
Word count should also take into consideration of wheather words in brackets ie "{, }, [, ], (, )" should be counted as well. As some may be aware that academics use brackets to cite references and these are not considered as countable words when essays/thesis are marked and it would be really good if there was an option of excluding words in brackets. Apoligies for filing this bug under OOo 1.1, there was no option for 688
