In writer; hold down the 'Highlight' colour picker until you get the popup;
re-sizing the popup simply enlarges the boxes without revealing the colours
lower in the list. The attached patch doesn't fix that, but makes the default
size fit all the colors ;-)

pl->cj: this is such an obvious fix that i think its rotting for half a year
must be an oversight. Please consider reassigning to os for commiting.

CJ->OS: The patch makes sense, but before integrating this patch we should have
the how it look in real life.

It actually works in 680 m62
