Description dcarrera 2003-06-15 13:59:14 UTC
I'd like to suggest changes to the default function bar. I know that the
toolbar can be changed, but most new users do not. It is important to pick
sensible defaults. These suggestions are based on observations in the
users@openoffice.org mailing list:

1) Add a "Page Preview" icon. This is a commonly-performed function.
This also facilitates the migration from Microsoft Office, which is where most
new users are comming from.

2) Print button should be altered from the present "Print file Directly..." to
the "Print File..." which brings up the print dialogue. Far too many requests on
the list are of the type "How do I make it print thusly?", when the necessary
options are in the print dialogue.

3) Add "Export as PDF" icon. Same reasons as (1).

4) Change "Export as PDF" icon by the standard Adobe icon which everyone is
familiar with. It is important that functions be easily recognizable.

Has Bettina considered this issue yet? It hasn't been touched since September.

Comment 4 caiot1 2005-03-07 16:24:55 UTC
1) page preview icon - is in 2.0bc
2) Print file icon - it isn't, but isn't such a bad idea
3) export pdf (directly) icon - in 2.0bc
4) I think it's pretty recognizable. It comes with PDF in red, just like in the
acrobat icon, but the acrobat icon has the adobe logo and the OOo icon has a
document image.

Closing, consider openning a new issue just to the things you want, since two of
the four things you cited are in 2.0bc.
