Issue 13878

Summary: CSV import and export should be more flexible, i.e. Calc should treat the delimitter characters "\n" and "\r" differently. Also an "ignore blank lines" option would be useful.

Hello,

I'd like to process foreign CSV data files that have the property of lines
separated with line feeds ("\n"), and which have multiline text fields within
a line where the lines within such a field are separated with a carriage
return ("\r"). It would be nice if OpenOffice could read and write such files
properly instead of ignoring the difference between \n and \r and thus break
the lines. Some more options to the import and export dialogue would be
required. Alternatively, the possibility to specify import and export filters
for files, lines, and cells, would be nice where the filters should be
specifiable as eg. Perl scripts.

Thanks!

The "\n inside fields" seems to be double to issue 7370.

\n inside fields is a duplicate of 834.

I'm adding this here rather than as a separate issue since it seems to be related.

It would be good if there was an "ignore blank lines" option when importing CSV
and related (other delimeters and fixed-width) files.

Cheers,
Ian.
