Writer file that frezzes app when Ctrl-Wheel-Zooming fast in online layout mode none

Description warper 2003-01-30 13:28:43 UTC
In a document beefed up with table of contents, graphics, one OOo Drawing
(probably OLE, it is editable inline by double-clicking it) and footnotes I
noticed that zooming "freezes" Writer, meaning it seems to enter a loop, won't
refresh the screen or accept any input, process will consume 100% CPU (memory
staying constant) until killed.

This only happens when "Online layout" is activated. I could not reproduce it in
normal layout mode.

I will try to attach the document (contents scrambled, sorry couldn't give it
out otherwise, problem was reproduced with scrambled texts) demonstrating the
problem.
I could trigger the problem on another Windows 2000 PC (OOo installed from the
same binaries) as well.

How to reproduce:
- open document
- switch to View -> Online Layout (if not already activated)
- press and hold "Ctrl" key
- use mouse wheel to zoom in and out FAST
- watch CPU usage....

Sometimes zooming in one direction is sufficient, sometimes it needs some more.

I will not say the loop is infinite - but it does not end within 10min...

Sorry if I did something completly wrong, I'm new to IssueZilla...

Pressing all thumbs and toes for everyone working on OOo,
Philipp

I can now confirm it still happens in 1.0.3(.1?) German.

Thank you for using and supporting OOo.

Duplicated on RH 9.0, OOo 1.0.3.1 & 1.1 Beta 2

Hi Phillip!
Thank you for this good description (especially the step-by-step "how
to reproduce", that's exactly what we expect)!

Unfortunatly, though I tested this on a Red Hat 9.0 and WinXP, I
couldn't reproduce the freeze or loop you describe.
After a while (let's say between 10sec and 1mn, depending on how crazy
I play with the wheel) I will see the document painted again and OOo
works on. Also I didn't get 100% of CPU but between 60%-90% (which is
pretty huge).
Anyway compared with the behaviour of the page layout, the online
layout is under performormant.

ES->OD: cab we optimize this?
Comment 6 Oliver-Rainer Wittmann 2003-07-03 10:18:41 UTC
OD->ES (03.07.2003):
Can You please:
(1) close this task, if the 'freeze'/'loop' is *not* reproducable and
(2) setup a new task for the performance issue with an appropriate
target and an appropriate priority.
