it appears my folly has got the best of me. The date format does work and does sort. I was using it wrong. I thought that because the date format was MMM YYYY I could enter Dec 1999 and it would be recognized as a date. I now realize that I must enter 12/01/1999 and then it will be automatacally converted to the MMM YYYY format. My next suggestion is that if a date is entered in the date format assigned to the cell then that date format will be recognized. (I have a feeling this could open a can of worms!) PS maybe someone could tell me why I cant Add/Edit Issues using Mozilla web browser. It keeps telling me to login. After I login I can view my issues and other things. But when I try to File and Issue or Edit an issue, I get the "You must Login" Screen. Thanks. I would like to join the suggestion to recognize the date format assigned to the cell for date input. And I think it should be recognized first in the assigned format and if the date parsing fails then the language default should be tried. Also see probably duplicate issue 11689. Hi Bettina, one4you This issue is a duplicate of Issue 3820. I don't have the access rights to change its status to DUPLICATE. Or I just don't know how. Hello Jim, this feature will be implemented in OO.o 2.0. Please have a look at the specification on http://specs.openoffice.org/calc/ease-of-use/enhance_number_recognition.sxw Please keep this one on your owner (until it is implemented) or close it. Thank you. The requests made in comment 1 have been fixed in version 1.1.0. 1) Dates do change format when the date format is changed. 2) The date field can be sorted in any format. Because this bug has been fixed and because the bug was not dependent on the enhanced number recognition, I am closing it. |
