OpenOffice.org Statistics: SpreadsheetThe spreadsheets below represent downloads but not yet all downloads: we track website activity not actual server activity. Moreover, we only track file requests. Usually, this is enough, and as an open-source project, it's not clear we need to register every download. But the data collected and referenced here are merely indicative of preference and poplarity. Users, for instance, may be (are) going directly to their favorite servers. Users also obtain OpenOffice.org from Linux distributions (RedHat, SuSE, Debian, Mandrakesoft, et al., all distribute OpenOffice.org and do not share data with us). However, we would like to more accurately track the usage of OpenOffice.org's technology. If you want to help out with this effort, please, let me know. In January of 2004 we began using a more conservative measure. We track full-page accesses. As well, users are now hitting servers directly. Notes As of 2007-07, I started counting the more revealing "Accesses" instead of "Visits" for the data we were caputuring. We also have limited the range of data Wusage was tracking, as the massive data load was proving taxing. We now track key data points--downloads, basically. From 17 Feb. 2007 on we have had difficulty obtaining accurate statistics. We were able to derive download data, along with the usual data on mail list activity, but finer granularity is for now absent. The spreadsheet for 2007-06-30 captures total downloads plus mail list activity for the period from February to the end of June. Initial stats for 22 October 2005 were incomplete. We started using a proxy system for handling the load and the data were not reflected in the numbers. The latest spreadsheet and wusage files include the updated information.
As is obvious, we need for these spreadsheets to be complemented with nice charts. If you are willing to help out, please contact me.
