Localization Tips

Team:

build a team of  translators and 1-2 reviewers to work on the project - unless you prefer to do it by yourself. In the latter case, be aware of the fact that the number of strings to translate is quite large. It counts approx. 120,000 words. Therefore, it can take a long time before you even begin to see the end of the tunnel. We think that the numbers of the reviewers should be kept to 1-2 people, since the more translators and reviewers working on the project, the less you can ensure quality and consistency.

Glossary:

translate and define, whenever needed, the terms contained in the OpenOffice.org Glossary and share the list created with the other members of the Community for evaluation. A list containing the English terms can be found at: OpenOffice.org Glossary.

Localization:

start translating the software and help messages by using an editor which possibly supports a translation memory and fill it with the terms defined in the glossary. If it is not possible to import the glossary in the translation editor, you should manually consult the glossary.
