Povijest

OpenOffice.org ima korijene u StarOfficeu, skupu uredskih alata koji se od sredine osamdesetih razvija u Njemačkoj. Prava na StarOffice kupio je 1999 Sun Microsystems. Sun je StarOffice dao korisnicima oslobađanjem njegova izvornog koda. Tako je nastao OpenOffice.org, projekt na kojem sudjeluje tisuće dobrovoljaca, ali čiju glavninu razvoja i dalje podupire Sun.

StarOffice i OpenOffice.org

Razlike između OpenOfficea i StarOffica uglavnom se svode na dodatke kojih više ima StarOffice, a pobliže o tome možete naći ovdje.

Glavne razlike su sljedeće:

StarOffice nije besplatan, iako košta manje od 100 €. OpenOffice.org je besplatan.
StarOffice ima više dodataka
OpenOffice ima rječnik za provjeru hrvatskog pravopisa, StarOffice nema

Apache OpenOffice is an effort undergoing incubation at The Apache Software Foundation (ASF), sponsored by the Apache Incubator. Incubation is required of all newly accepted projects until a further review indicates that the infrastructure, communications, and decision making process have stabilized in a manner consistent with other successful ASF projects. While incubation status is not necessarily a reflection of the completeness or stability of the code, it does indicate that the project has yet to be fully endorsed by the ASF.
